Alexander Graham Bell
Most famous for his invention of the telephone, Bell paved the way for many of today's scientists and technologists to study, understand, and develop, in areas from sound waves to ocean waves. Bell held 30 patents. These included fourteen for the telephone and telegraph, four for the photophone, one for the phonograph, five for aerial vehicles, four for hydroplanes, and two for a selenium cell. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1847, Bell arrived in Canada in 1870. He subsequently spent many years in the United States before moving to Baddeck, Nova Scotia with his wife, the former Mabel Hubbard. They raised four children and Bell lived out his days in Cape Breton as one of the world's greatest inventors.
